Description

Please join Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle's Cook County Justice Advisory Council, the Cook County Juvenile Justice Division, Cook County Juvenile Probation and the JDAI Community Engagement Committee for one of two community listening sessions focused on justice involved youth in the 4th police district. These sessions will be the first step towards building a dialogue and partnership with the Juvenile Court and the community. We need you to help us answer the following:

1. What are the positive outcomes we want to have for court involved youth?
2. What are the community’s strengths?
3. What opportunities are there for partnership between the Court and the community to help court-involved youth achieve positive outcomes?

Organized by

Cook County Justice Advisory Council

Cook County Juvenile Justice Division

Cases heard in the Juvenile Justice Division involve delinquent minors under 18 years of age and include:

  • Proceedings to determine if a minor has violated any federal or state law, county or municipal ordinance
  • Proceedings for minors addicted to alcohol or drugs
  • Proceedings for minors who require authoritative intervention (runaways or those beyond the control of a parent, guardian or custodian)

The Juvenile Justice Division has an array of services that can be ordered by the court to help rehabilitate the minor. These services are monitored by the court's Juvenile Probation and Court Services Department. These services are designed to protect the community, impose accountability for delinquent behavior, and equip minors with competencies to live responsibly and productively.

Cook County Juvenile Probation

The mission of the Juvenile Probation and Court Services Department is to serve the welfare of children and their families within a sound framework of public safety. The Department is committed to providing the guidance, structure and services needed by every child under its supervision. In partnership with the community, the Department promotes the healing and recovery of neglected children and directs delinquent children toward reforming their behavior in the context of increased accountability, enhanced community restoration, and expanded personal competencies.

JDAI Community Engagement Committee

The JDAI Community Engagement Committee prioritizes one of the JDAI over-arching goals of increased collaboration between stakeholders. It will acknowledge and leverage the importance of having both court and community at the table in an open space in order to strengthen juvenile justice reform efforts on behalf of those children and families most impacted byt the Juvenile Court system.
